What Huawei IAS makes
HUAWEI Intelligent Automotive Solution -- now formally operating as Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology -- makes software and hardware systems for electric vehicles and connected cars. The product line runs across five named families. HUAWEI ADS (Autonomous Driving Solution), now in its fifth generation, is a full-stack driver-assistance and autonomous-driving system built on multi-sensor fusion: lidar, camera, and radar inputs processed through a proprietary compute platform running QIANKUN OS, with a cloud-side World Engine and an on-vehicle World Action Model for real-time decision-making. ADS is the unit's flagship offering and the system appearing in most of its publicly disclosed programs. HarmonySpace is an intelligent cockpit platform built on HarmonyOS, covering in-cabin entertainment, voice interaction, and driver-interface software. HUAWEI XMC is a chassis motion control system that integrates perception data with vehicle dynamics management. HUAWEI Automotive Optics covers the sensor hardware side -- lidar units and camera modules for intelligent vehicles. HUAWEI IVCS (Intelligent Vehicle Cloud Service) provides the cloud-side layer for OTA updates, connected navigation, and fleet services.
The unit sells these products three ways. In the component mode, individual modules -- a lidar, a compute platform, a cockpit unit -- go to automakers that integrate them into their own stack. In the Huawei Inside (HI) mode, the company provides a full-stack intelligent automotive solution to an automaker that markets and sells the car independently; Avatr Technology (Changan) and Arcfox (BAIC) have used this model. In the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) model, Huawei goes deeper: co-developing vehicles with partner brands, providing its sales and retail infrastructure, and taking a material role in product positioning and marketing. HIMA is the highest-integration mode and accounts for the largest share of the unit's revenue. The unit's stated position is that it does not manufacture vehicles -- the automaker partner does -- though the depth of its role in the HIMA brands blurs that boundary in practice.
The cumulative R&D investment in the automotive business unit since 2019 exceeded CNY 30 billion, per the company's own IR materials, and the R&D team was approximately 7,000 people as of 2023. Investment has continued to grow since. The product roadmap is publicly oriented toward autonomous driving capability expansion and broadening the HIMA brand roster.
Financial performance
Huawei's 2025 Annual Report, released March 31, 2026, disclosed CNY 45 billion in intelligent automotive solution revenue for FY2025, a 72.1% increase versus FY2024 per the company's own filings. Berylls by AlixPartners, whose annual Top-100 study tracks automotive-sector revenue on a EUR basis, estimated the unit's automotive-sector revenue at EUR 6.5 billion for FY2025, up 93% year on year from EUR 3.4 billion in FY2024, making it the single largest year-on-year climber in the 2026 study (rank 97 to 52). The difference between the two growth figures reflects currency translation choices and, possibly, different perimeter definitions.
The IAS business unit achieved its first annual profit in 2024, per reporting in Caixin Global. Prior to that, the unit ran at a loss -- a deliberate investment posture given the scale of R&D commitment. Huawei does not publish a segment-level EBIT margin for the automotive unit; the group's 2025 operating margin was 11.0% on CNY 880.9 billion in total revenue.
The unit's revenue trajectory stands apart from the rest of the Berylls Top-100: most established Tier-1 suppliers grew in the low single digits or contracted in FY2025. The +93% reported for Huawei IAS reflects both real volume growth (more vehicles carrying its technology) and, structurally, the shift from the Huawei-parent subsidizing the unit to the unit generating external revenue at scale.
Ownership and history
Huawei formally established its Intelligent Automotive Solution Business Unit in April 2019 at the Auto Shanghai show. From 2019 through 2023, the BU operated inside Huawei's corporate structure, running at a sustained loss while building the product portfolio and signing its first OEM partnerships. In November 2023, Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding with Changan Automobile to begin transferring the BU's core assets into an independent entity.
In January 2024, Huawei established Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary to hold the automotive business. Through 2024, the BU's technology and people were migrated into Yinwang. In March 2025, the ownership structure changed: Huawei's stake moved from 100% to 80%, with Avatr Technology (Changan's EV arm) and Seres Group each acquiring a 10% stake. Seres paid CNY 115 billion for its 10%, per a company announcement. The company now operates under the Yinwang legal entity while marketing externally as HUAWEI Intelligent Automotive Solution.
Huawei Technologies, the parent, is a private company wholly owned by approximately 169,000 current and retired employee shareholders as of December 31, 2025. Ren Zhengfei, the founder, holds roughly 0.59% of total share capital. The parent operates in more than 170 countries and employs approximately 213,000 people. The IAS/Yinwang unit is headquartered at Huawei's campus in the Longgang district of Shenzhen, Guangdong.
Certifications and quality
Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solution unit holds IATF 16949 certification, the automotive quality management standard that functions as a baseline entry requirement for supplying original equipment manufacturers directly. The certification was issued by TÜV Rheinland, one of the recognized third-party certification bodies for IATF 16949, and is subject to annual surveillance audits. A Certipedia record for Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technologies (certificate number 01 111 2432365) is on file. Per the TÜV Rheinland case study, the unit integrated IATF 16949 requirements with its existing ICT quality management practices from the time the BU was established. Huawei's stated rationale was that automotive-grade quality requirements exceed ICT-grade requirements, and that the certification was necessary to credibly supply vehicle manufacturers.
The automotive unit describes its quality approach as applying automotive industry development processes -- including APQP and PPAP workflows -- across its hardware and software products. These are standard requirements in the automotive Tier-1 supplier base.
Known customers
Huawei IAS's OEM program record is among the most publicly documented of any new-entrant automotive software supplier, primarily because the HIMA alliance brands are consumer-facing and generate sales data.
The five brands in the HIMA alliance, as of mid-2026, are: AITO (partner: Seres Group), LUXEED (Chery), STELATO (BAIC BluePark), MAEXTRO (JAC), and a fifth brand being developed with SAIC Motor, which joined HIMA in late September 2025. AITO has been the highest-volume brand since launch; the AITO M9, a large luxury SUV, has been one of the consistent sellers in its segment since launch, and cumulative HIMA deliveries across all five brands reached 1.5 million units in August 2026, 53 months after the first HIMA vehicle reached customers.
Outside the HIMA model, Huawei's HI (Huawei Inside) mode supplies full-stack intelligent driving systems to Avatr Technology (a Changan-Huawei joint venture vehicle brand), and has supplied Arcfox under BAIC. Seres Group (10% Yinwang shareholder) and Avatr Technology (10% shareholder) are both equity partners as well as customers -- a structure that makes the supplier-customer relationship transparent in the ownership record.
