Notes use three words deliberately: "Native" works day one, "Configured" arrives through an implementation project, and "Marketed" appears on the vendor's site with day-one delivery undocumented. "Not documented" means the vendor does not publicly document this capability as of Sep 22, 2026; it may exist, and we note the gap rather than guess. Ratings reflect public documentation as of Sep 22, 2026.

What Kodiak Hub does well: supplier relationships, risk, and compliance across all spend

Kodiak Hub was founded in Stockholm in 2016 by Malin Schmidt and has built one thing deliberately: a supplier relationship management suite. The modules cover the full relationship lifecycle: supplier onboarding and self-assessments (in(site)), configurable scorecards and evaluations (kp(Insight)), collaboration and corrective actions (im(prove)), and a mobile on-site audit app (on(Site)) that writes results back to scorecards. Around that core sits a bundled risk stack: financial assessments (fin(sight)), sanctions and PEP screening (trade(Trust)), adverse media monitoring (media(insight)), and macro risk (safe(Source)). LightSource has no equivalent to the audit app or the continuous risk feeds.

The compliance story is real, and European by design. CSRD, CSDDD, and modern-slavery reporting workflows are built in, which matters if your suppliers sit inside the EU regulatory perimeter. The company reports 80+ customers and 300,000+ suppliers managed across 176 countries, with customers including LKAB, Höganäs, Jotun, Logitech, and Konica Minolta. It won Procurement Solution of the Year in the 2025 SupplyTech Breakthrough Awards and entered the US market in February 2025 on a $6M investment from Oxx.

Reviewers consistently describe it as easier and materially cheaper than legacy suite SRM; several public reviews come from teams that moved off SAP Ariba and are glad they did. CEO Malin Schmidt's own framing is the clearest positioning available: "If you think about what a CRM is for an account executive, that's what we are for a strategic buyer." For managing relationships, risk, and compliance across every supplier a company has, direct, indirect, and services, that is a genuinely useful product.

What LightSource covers that Kodiak Hub does not: parts, RFQs, quotes, and awards

LightSource starts where an SRM cannot: the part. Items, BOMs, revisions, and drawings are managed, versioned objects. AI ingestion turns Excel files, PDFs, and drawings into a revision-managed item master, and RFQs go out at the part level with drawings attached. Kodiak Hub has no part concept anywhere in its platform documentation, which is consistent with the job it was built for.

The sourcing machinery follows from the data model. LightSource is the only sourcing solution with true flexible cost breakdowns: category-specific bid sheets per event, so a casting quote and a PCB quote each break down along their own cost structure. AI reads and normalizes quotes in any format, ranks bids, and drafts award scenarios, and every award becomes a tracked contract with per-part, per-supplier price history. Kodiak Hub's own documentation scopes the platform away from this work; in its words, "RFI/RFP is possible, but for strategic sourcing events -- not high-frequency, multi-commodity, price comparison(s)."

Suppliers are the other half. LightSource is free for suppliers, onboarding takes under 30 minutes, and 20,000 suppliers are live on the network with AI capability-based discovery. Kodiak Hub customers onboard their own supplier base; there is no shared quoting network to draw from. Manufacturers from Infinite Machine to BRP, Canada Goose, and Shure run their direct-materials sourcing this way today.

Because scorecards, data rooms with AI document analysis, and certification collection are built into the sourcing record, a direct-materials team gets the sourcing-linked share of supplier management inside LightSource. What LightSource does not replicate is Kodiak Hub's cross-spend layer: continuous financial, sanctions, and media risk feeds, mobile audit programs, and CSRD reporting across every supplier in the company.

The structural difference: Kodiak Hub records suppliers, LightSource records parts

The cleanest way to understand these two products is by what a record means in each one. In Kodiak Hub, a record is a supplier: its assessments, certificates, risk scores, audit history, and improvement actions. In LightSource, a record is a part: its revisions, drawings, BOM position, quotes, cost breakdowns, awards, and price history. Everything else about the two products follows from that choice.

Kodiak Hub says this about itself. Its information page for AI assistants lists what the platform is not ideal for: operational purchasing and PO management, "full-blown RFQs," and sourcing events that are not strategic. In our reading, the analyst world files Kodiak Hub under supplier information and relationship management rather than sourcing execution or direct materials, which matches the company's own self-scoping. The competitive pressure on Kodiak Hub comes from procurement suites' supplier-information modules and other supplier-information-management specialists, not from LightSource.

Both companies are actively funded and building. Kodiak Hub has raised roughly $11M in total per Tracxn, most recently 6M euro from Oxx in November 2024, and is expanding in the US. LightSource carries venture backing co-led by Lightspeed and Bain Capital Ventures ($33M) and was named a Gartner Cool Vendor in 2025. Neither company is building toward the other's job, which is why this page is a guide to fit rather than a head-to-head.

Running both: Kodiak Hub as the relationship layer, LightSource as the sourcing engine

The overlap between these products is narrow. Supplier onboarding, scorecards, and document collection exist in both, but the core question each answers is different.

A workable stack for a global manufacturer looks like this: Kodiak Hub as the company-wide relationship and compliance layer, running risk monitoring, CSRD reporting, audit programs, and evaluation campaigns across all suppliers, direct and indirect. LightSource as the direct-materials engine underneath, holding the item master, running part-level RFQs and cost breakdowns, and recording awards and price history. The ERP stays the transactional backbone, and both products integrate to it: Kodiak Hub through its API-driven connectors, LightSource through its GraphQL API and awarded-pricing exports.

Where the stack simplifies: a mid-market direct-materials team without a heavy audit or EU-reporting burden usually finds that LightSource's built-in scorecards, data rooms, and certification collection cover the supplier management its sourcing work actually requires, and a separate SRM becomes optional. Where it does not simplify: a company with hundreds of audited, regulated suppliers across all spend has a real job for Kodiak Hub, one that LightSource does not do.

What public reviewers say

On G2, LightSource holds 4.9 out of 5 across roughly 11 reviews and Kodiak Hub holds 4.4 out of 5 across roughly 31 reviews. Both are small review bases, so read the scores as directional rather than statistical. A note on sourcing: we could not verify verbatim quotes from Kodiak Hub's G2 pages, so the Kodiak Hub quotes below are taken verbatim from its public Capterra review pool, which Software Advice mirrors. Across its G2 base, reviewers praise the intuitive interface, scorecard customization, and a responsive team, while the recurring complaints are limits in configuring scoring attributes, handling of complex corporate structures, report printing, and system speed.

The positive reviews are specific. "Kodiak Hub's system simplifies supplier management with a straightforward interface and useful performance dashboard. The insights that comes with the dashboards are great," wrote one Capterra reviewer (Retail, 2024). Another, who moved off SAP Ariba, called the platform "very customizable for our needs, not as rigid as SAP Ariba is" (Capterra reviewer, Apparel & Fashion, 2024).

The critical notes are just as specific, and they do not all agree with the praise. "Quite a rigid platform that is not easily customisable to our organisations needs," wrote a Capterra reviewer (Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, 2024), a direct counterpoint to the customization praise above. The Ariba switcher was candid about rollout: "It took a bit longer to implement than we initially thought (a lot due to ourselves), but it was still probably 6-7 months quicker than Ariba."

For LightSource, a G2 reviewer (VP of Supply Chain, Mid-Market, 2024) wrote: "Getting started is extremely easy, and the platform's intuitive design means we're not wasting time figuring things out. Its AI capabilities are seriously helpful, especially for our supplier management and contract work." The recurring critical note on LightSource concerns supplier adoption, and it doubles as a note on how the network grows, from a G2 reviewer (Mid-Market, 2024): "The biggest challenge of LightSource is just getting the suppliers to try it. Once they try it --- they're also hooked."

When to choose what

Choose Kodiak Hub if

  • You need one relationship and compliance layer over every supplier you have, direct, indirect, and services, with segmentation and evaluation campaigns.

  • Your regulatory burden is heavy and European: CSRD, CSDDD, and modern-slavery reporting with documented audit trails.

  • You want bundled risk monitoring: financial health scores, sanctions and PEP screening, adverse media, and macro risk alerts.

  • You run on-site supplier audit programs and want a mobile audit app that writes results back to scorecards.

  • You are replacing a legacy suite SRM module and want something lighter that public reviewers describe as easier and cheaper than SAP Ariba.

Choose LightSource if

  • Your work starts with a part: drawings, revisions, BOMs, and the question of who should make it and at what price.

  • You run part-level RFQs regularly and need real cost breakdowns, AI bid analysis, and award scenarios rather than RFI scoring.

  • You want per-part, per-supplier price history and award records that survive buyer turnover.

  • You want suppliers quoting fast: free supplier access, onboarding in under 30 minutes, and a 20,000-supplier network with capability-based discovery.

  • You want supplier scorecards, data rooms, and certification collection attached to actual RFQ and award history rather than run as a separate system.

RUNNING BOTH

For a global manufacturer with a serious compliance program, the two products stack cleanly. Kodiak Hub runs the company-wide relationship layer, monitoring risk, running audits, and producing CSRD reporting across all suppliers. LightSource runs direct-materials sourcing underneath, from item master through RFQ, cost breakdown, and award, with the ERP as the transactional backbone both integrate to. The overlap is limited to onboarding, scorecards, and document collection, and in a combined stack those split naturally: company-wide relationship programs live in Kodiak Hub, sourcing-linked supplier records live in LightSource.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kodiak Hub a competitor to LightSource?

Not in any practical sense. Kodiak Hub is a supplier relationship management suite whose unit of record is the supplier; LightSource is the Direct Materials Operating System whose unit of record is the part. Kodiak Hub's own documentation scopes it away from operational purchasing and high-frequency RFQs, which is exactly where LightSource does its work.

Does Kodiak Hub do RFQs and sourcing events?

Kodiak Hub supports RFI and RFP for strategic supplier selection, and its own AI information page states it is not ideal for full-blown RFQs or non-strategic sourcing events. It has no bid sheets, cost breakdowns, quote comparison, or award workflow. Part-level quoting is not what the product is for.

Does LightSource replace an SRM like Kodiak Hub?

For the sourcing-linked share of supplier management, yes: scorecards, data rooms with AI document analysis, and certification collection are built into LightSource's sourcing record. It does not replicate Kodiak Hub's cross-spend layer of continuous financial, sanctions, and media risk feeds, mobile audit programs, or CSRD reporting workflows. Whether you need that layer depends on your spend mix and regulatory exposure.

Can you run LightSource and Kodiak Hub together?

Yes, and the stack is coherent: Kodiak Hub as the relationship and compliance layer across all suppliers, LightSource as the direct-materials system of record for parts, RFQs, and awards, and the ERP as the transactional backbone both integrate to. The narrow overlap in onboarding, scorecards, and document collection splits along the same line: company-wide programs in Kodiak Hub, sourcing-linked records in LightSource.

How much does Kodiak Hub cost?

Kodiak Hub does not publish pricing. Third-party listings such as TrustRadius and Software Advice describe custom, quote-based, modular subscriptions, and public reviewers describe it as materially cheaper than SAP Ariba. LightSource prices as a platform plus seats, with implementation included.

What is the difference between SRM software and a direct materials operating system?

SRM software manages the supplier as a relationship: onboarding, performance evaluations, risk, compliance, and improvement actions, usually across all spend categories. A direct materials operating system manages the part as a record: items, BOMs, revisions, RFQs, quote analysis, awards, and price history, connecting engineering, procurement, and suppliers from spec through scale. Many manufacturers need the second; only some, typically larger and more regulated ones, also need the first as a separate system.
